About Sisal Rugs Direct

Founded in 1992, Sisal Rugs Direct began with a love for natural fibers and a belief that sustainable materials could make every home more beautiful.

Our story

In the 1980s, while living in Brazil, my husband John and I discovered the beauty and strength of the agave sisalana plant — the source of natural sisal fiber. We were surrounded by the incredible craftsmanship and long-held traditions of our indigenous neighbors. Watching those fibers being transformed by hand into something both useful and beautiful sparked a passion within us.

That inspiration became our guide in 1992 when we founded Sisal Rugs Direct. We wanted to share our love for natural fibers and thoughtful design, and decided to do it through this new, exciting platform called a website. It was a big leap at the time, but it allowed us to connect directly with people who valued quality, craftsmanship, and the beauty of natural materials as much as we did.

Over the years, our collection has grown to include seagrass, jute, wool, and outdoor synthetics, yet our mission has always stayed the same: to bring natural, sustainable, and healthy materials into homes through beautiful, long-lasting flooring.

Today, I'm honored to carry that vision forward alongside our sons. Together, we continue to craft eco-conscious rugs with care — and to share our love for natural design with families everywhere.
