The Latest Interior Design Trends
Whether you’re interested in decking your halls in the latest fashion or you just like imagining the possibilities, reviewing interior design trends can be a great way to drum up some inspiration for your own decorative adventures.
And best of all, as of 2024, “stylish” and “trendy” are no longer terms that are synonymous with “inaccessible.” This year, even the hottest interior design trends are surprisingly down to earth - in some cases, literally! If you’re looking for ways to liven up your own home’s interior design, from beautiful gray area rugs to driftwood decor that showcases nature, these trends could help you do it without breaking the bank.
Here’s what the experts are saying about 2024’s interior design trends, and how you can start incorporating them into your own home today.
Biophilic design
Unsurprisingly, the top hospitality design trend of 2024 is making its way to home interior design, too. Biophilic (literally meaning “love of nature”) design is design that evokes the outdoor world. It includes any design choices you might make to bring the outside inside your home, from indoor plants to natural fibers like sisal or jute to lush green and earthy brown tones.
According to experts interviewed by HGTV, biophilic design will be one of the biggest interior design trends of 2024. “Biophilic design will thrive in 2024,” said Urbanology Designs Founder and CEO Ginger Curtis. “Expect to see more indoor plants, living green walls, natural materials like stone and wood, and large windows to maximize natural light and reduce the barrier between the interior and exterior.”
This design is echoed in biophilic area rugs. Since they’re woven of truly natural, sustainably sourced materials, natural fiber rugs are one of the most authentic ways you can introduce biophilic design into your home’s spaces. We’ve written about a few of our favorite biophilic rugs before, so if you’re interested, you’ve got the perfect place to start looking.
Rounded and soft outdoor collections
According to Elle decor, outdoor furniture is bigger than ever following the pandemic - to the point where indoor/outdoor spaces have become an important extension of many home’s interior design approaches.
As these indoor/outdoor spaces have grown in importance, Elle has noticed some prevailing trends in how they’re put together. Namely: there is a renewed emphasis on rounded or “kidney bean-shaped” furniture that evokes softness and approachability in exterior design. As if in response, interior designs have started to trend toward curvy softness themselves, with an emphasis on low armchairs and sofas that give the spaces a loungey, easygoing feel. Rugs can be a great way to enhance the design of your indoor/outdoor spaces. The indoor/outdoor rug collection was created for that express purpose. These synthetic rugs recreate the softness of natural fibers like wool, but they’re strong, easy to clean, 100% waterproof, mold and mildew resistant, and even UV protected to prevent fading over time. If you’re looking for a way to make your indoor/outdoor spaces feel cozier, curvier, and “squishier,” indoor/outdoor rugs could be the perfect solution.
Fashionable Browns and Reds
Browns and reds have already taken the world by storm in 2023 and 2024’s fashion scene, and according to experts interviewed by Vogue, they’re heading home next.
“Brown is about to have the most major moment,” said interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. “Fashion has already embraced it, and now we will see it in interiors from lacquered walls to velvet drapery to heavy textured linen sofas.”
“Red dominated the fashion scene in 2023, and I see that spilling over into interiors,” added interior designer Joy Moyler. “I’m ready for it. It may be mixed with a side of latte, too!”
Rugs are an excellent way to add a splash of color to any room in whatever size or hue you choose. For example, we feature a wide variety of red rugs in different tones, textures, and materials, each of which could be well-suited for this design philosophy. Meanwhile, we also have a diverse collection of brown rugs available in a wide variety of hues and accents.
Sustainable materials
According to design expert duo Joel Wong and Amanda Gunawan in a recent interview for House Beautiful, sustainable materials will finally, truly come into vogue in 2024. They imagine that sustainability will become a new emphasis not only for building materials, but for statement design pieces themselves, including furniture, decor, and even lamps.
Sisal Rugs Direct specializes in rugs woven from 100% organic and sustainable materials. Our wool, sisal, seagrass, hemp, and jute rugs are each woven from fibers sourced from sustainable producers only. Because these rugs retain their natural textures, hues, and rugged feeling, they even look sustainable, making them the perfect way to accent the naturalistic, sustainability-focused spaces in your home.
